What is the Once-Only Principle?

The Once-Only Principle (OOP) needs to be seen in the context of public sector digitalisation. It means that citizens and businesses provide diverse data only once in contact with public administrations, while public administration bodies take actions to internally share and reuse these data – even across borders – always in respect of data protection regulations and other constraints.

Benefits of the Once-Only Principle

The benefits include the reduced administrative burden, time- and cost-savings. At the same time, the data that have been provided to public administrations will always remain under full control and consent of the businesses involved, in line with EU data protection legislation.

Who can benefit from the Once-Only Principle?

Everyone in Europe will benefit – Citizens and businesses because their interaction with administration will become more intelligent as they only need to provide data once, and administration will benefit from being able to have accurate and uptodate data available for processing.
